Italian vacation 2012

Yep, you read that right! Ryan and I got back from our Roman vacation this past Sunday. We stayed in Rome for 7 days, with one day spent in the gorgeous Sorrento and surreal Pompeii.

My amazing husband surprised me with this trip back in September for our 5th wedding anniversary. Apparently everyone in my life knew he had booked the trip but me. Luckily though, he decided to fill me in on the excitement at the Italian restaurant, Iaria's, on our anniversary.

On February 26th, we left Claire with her grandparents and Ryan and I jumped on a jet plane and flew over 5,000 miles to Rome. This was the first trip to Europe for us both -  we were in for an adventure. And culture shock. But believe me, it is totally worth it.

We took over 650 pictures at locations like the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, Borghese Gallery, the Vatican Museum, St. Peter's Basilica, and countless other churches. We also took a ton of pictures in Sorrento (seriously, I did not want to leave this town!) and the ruins of Pompeii. When I was a kid I was obsessed with the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD and the destruction of Pompeii. I can't explain how surreal it felt walking through this city frozen in time - for almost 2000 years. Truly amazing.

Here are a few pictures from our trip. If you're really bored, feel free to see all 653 pictures here.
