It's now been 7 weeks working with United Way of Central Indiana, and I cannot believe I am more than have way through the program. The first week of training I felt completely clueless and was nervous about learning all the procedures of the R & D department. Now, 7 weeks later, I am very comfortable with the procedures, and I love the opportunities to meet new and interesting people.
My Loaned Executive class is awesome. I feel I have made good friends with several of them. I hope to keep in touch for a long time to come. It's been a long time since I've been excited to get up and go into work. I will miss this feeling. Don't get me wrong - it's not all wonderful! I've been told "no" more times than I'd like to admit. And waiting for that phone to ring is exhausting. But it's so rewarding when I visit the agencies, like Second Helpings and the Children's Bureau, and the people whose lives have been so touched by the work of United Way supporters. I love seeing the results of my hard work. I guess that's why I don't want to leave. I want to finish out my campaigns; not turn them over to UW staff members. But in the end, what's important is the funding that is brought in and what happens with that funding (who really benefits).
And on top of everything else, I've found a passion for marketing! Especially through social media, I've found that I love marketing small businesses. Love it! Could a new direction be in my future???
